DALLAS (CBS 11 NEWS) – After spending decades helping people, the roles are now reversed for a retired Dallas firefighter.

Charlie Contreras, 60,  was hit head-on on early Sunday morning by an alleged drunk driver.

Contreras, at the time, was riding his motorcycle and suffered severe injuries.

He remains at Baylor Hospital in a medically induced coma as he undergoes multiple surgeries.

Shortly after the hit-and-run accident, Dallas police officers caught up with and arrest 20-year-old Juan Diaz Lizama.

He has been charged with intoxicated assault with a vehicle.

The Dallas Hispanic Firefighters Association has set up an account to help with Contreras’ medical bills.
