The program providing the meals is made possible through a sponsorship with the Summer Food Service Program. SFSP was created to ensure that low-income children continue to receive nutritious meals during long school vacations.

School districts qualify by having at least 50-percent of enrolled students eligible to receive free/reduced price meal benefits under the National School Breakfast or Lunch Program.
