GRAND PRAIRIE (CBSDFW.COM) – A traffic stop in search of drugs in Grand Prairie ended in Mountain Creek Lake on Thursday after police said the suspects led officers on a chase through town.
Investigators said the situation started around 3:00 p.m. on Thursday after an officer attempted to stop a vehicle believed to be involved in “narcotic activity.”
“It was just like a whole bunch of cars. A whole bunch of flashing lights. I kind of got scared at first. I didn’t know what was going on,” said Jabari Ware, who witnessed the chase.
Ware was getting ready to do some fishing at the lake when he looked up and saw a truck, not a boat, launch into the water.
“Man and when he went into the water, did he think he was going to go on top of the water? What happened man!” said Ware.
Grand Prairie Police said after the chase broke out, the driver of the truck swerved around a spike strip and tried to run over an officer.
“He picked up speed and went right into the water. And there was a sailboat he ran into trying to get away,” said Kenneth Washington, who witnessed the crash.
Washington was working on his jet-skis and could not believe his eyes.
Police said when the suspects hit the water, the started tossing “evidence” out the window.
“The police got behind him and threw down on him and the apprehended him and everyone was safe,” said Washington.
The suspects were then arrested.
A dive team spent hours searching for whatever the suspects threw into the water. It wrapped up a day at the lake few like Jabari Ware have ever witnessed before.
“I didn’t know what was going through his mind. I haven’t seen nothing futuristic like that. If there’s a car like that, I need one. If it can float on water, I need one,” said Ware.
The names of the suspects have not been released.
