FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM/AP) – A second undercover video involving Planned Parenthood is prompting Texas Governor Greg Abbott to call for an expanded investigation into the agency.READ MORE: US Supreme Court To Consider Controversial Texas Abortion Law
In the video, which is edited and was released by pro-life group, The Center for Medical Progress, a Planned Parenthood executive is talking about the acceptable cost of handling a fetal tissue sample.
Planned Parenthood dismisses the video, saying it was edited to support false claims.
Last week, another video was released by the same group. In that video, a Planned Parenthood executive talked about the process of collecting tissue and organs during an abortion.READ MORE: Texas Mother And Son Arrested In Wyoming For Murder In Oklahoma
The group that made the video says it proves Planned Parenthood is breaking federal law against selling human fetal tissue.
Planned Parenthood says it legally helps women who want to legally donate fetal tissue for scientific research, not sell it commercially. The agency released the following statement regarding the second video:
“Planned Parenthood is the most trusted women’s health care provider in this country, and we have provided excellent care for nearly 100 years.
Nothing is more important to us than the health and safety of our patients. As a high-quality health care provider, Planned Parenthood has extremely high standards, and any time we find those standards are not being met, we take swift action.
This morning, another very heavily edited video was released by activists who have been widely discredited and who edited a video last week to twist its meaning completely and support false claims. At this time, Planned Parenthood cannot confirm the authenticity of this tape, and nobody can tell exactly what was discussed because of the extremely heavy editing, the agenda of the activists who produced it, and the fact that the original footage has not been made available.
What we see on this tape is a woman who says “we’re not in it for the money,” and that any money must be related to reimbursement for costs.
It’s important to know that the source of these videos is a group of extremists who have intimidated women and doctors for years in their agenda to ban abortion completely. Last week, they released a deceptively edited video in order to falsely claim that a Planned Parenthood staffer was violating laws or might violate laws – when in fact the staffer said the exact opposite, at least 10 separate times, all of which were edited out of the video in order to mislead the public.
This is the necessary context to their claims and this latest release: These videos are part of a decade-long campaign of deceiving the public, making false charges, and terrorizing women and their doctors, all in order to ban abortion and cut women off from care at Planned Parenthood.”
