LEWISVILLE (CBSDFW.COM) – An important public health notice was issued today for people in Lewisville after a group of children were seen playing with a rabid bat.
It happened Saturday, Sept. 19, between 10 and 11 a.m., at the Lake Park Ballfields, roughly between fields 7 and 8. The children seen playing with the bat left before Animal Services arrived at the scene.
The bat later tested positive for rabies.
Despite the warning, authorities said there isn’t any reason to expect a widespread appearance of rabies, but it is extremely important that anyone exposed is identified and examined immediately.
Anyone who thinks they know a child who may have played with the rabid bat may contact “Ethel” at Animal Services at 972.219.3478.
