DALLAS (CBS 11 NEWS) – Matilda the Musical opens tonight at the Winspear Opera House in Dallas.

The stage musical is  based on the 1988 novel by Roald Dahl, who also wrote Charlie and The Chocolate Factory and James and The Giant Peach.

The musical has won 50 international awards, including four Tony Awards. It’s about a smart young girl – Matilda Wormwood – who loves to read and has a wild imagination. She learns to overcome obstacles, including hardships at home and school.

CBS 11’s Elizabeth Dinh interviewed Quinn Mattfeld, who plays Matilda’s dad, Mr. Wormwood.

Matilda the Musical opens September 23 and runs through October 4, before continuing on an American tour. Click here for ticket information.
