DALLAS (CBS11) — Officers arrested 31-year-old Kristopher Love after a month-long investigation pointed to him as the shooter in the murder of Uptown dentist Dr. Kendra Hatcher.

Love declined our request for an interview at the Dallas County Jail, and a lot of questions remain unanswered about how he became involved in what police are calling a murder-for-hire.

Hatcher was killed on Sept. 2.

Police say Love was the gunman in a three-person conspiracy to kill Hatcher. The plot came to light after officers arrested Crystal Cortes, who investigators say admitted to driving the getaway vehicle. Cortes told detectives her friend Brenda Delgado, the ex-girlfriend of Hatcher’s boyfriend, planned the crime. A woman who answered the door at Love’s apartment had little to say about him.

A criminal background search found a lengthy history for Love in Tennessee including charges of burglary and aggravated robbery, but neighbors say they never expected to learn Love was tied to the high-profile murder of the beloved Uptown dentist.

“They’re basically right next door, like they’re just a few feet away from us,” Love’s neighbor Londrea Murray said. “And y’all just killed somebody and had no remorse and was just on the run right over here by us.”

The focus of the investigation now shifts to Delgado. Police are still searching for the woman they say hired Love to murder Hatcher. Cortes has told detectives Delgado offered her $500 to drive Love to steal Hatcher’s driver’s license. Investigators say Love admitted to his role in the robbery that ended in Hatcher’s death.

“It’s just really scary to hear about a killer right there in the same building,” Love’s neighbor Laquita Polk said. “It is scary.”

Love is charged with capital murder and remains held on a $2.5 million bond. The arrest warrant for Brenda Delgado says she also faces a charge of capital murder.
