NORTH TEXAS (CBSDFW.COM) – Believe it or not, Thanksgiving is only two weeks away. If you’re traveling out of town, by air or car, there are some travel tips that may make the time off more enjoyable.

For those taking to the skies you most likely know the drill. Most major airports across the country will be a zoo.

If you’re flying out of Dallas Fort Worth International Airport maybe this statistic will give you comfort — there are three other U.S. airports that will be busier than DFW. If you are traveling to or through Illinois, California or Georgia, know that Chicago O’Hare International, Los Angeles International, and Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airports will be the top three busiest airports in the country this upcoming holiday.

Experts say you can cut down on times spent waiting in airport lines by completing your check-in process before you travel. Since business travel is less frequent over the holidays, it might make sense to travel business- or first-class instead. Be sure to check prices and don’t just automatically book a coach ticket.

Airline travelers are also encouraged to consider spending money on a day pass to those special airport lounges. It might be worth it to really relax while waiting at the airport.

As for what is the best day to fly out of your city — that can be tricky. A lot of people actually take off work for the entire Thanksgiving week, so they may start heading out the Friday before Thanksgiving. The actual Thanksgiving holiday is a very busy travel day and of course the Sunday after Thanksgiving is the busiest day of that travel period.

According to AAA, 90-percent of Thanksgiving travelers will drive to their destination. It’s estimated some 46 million people will hit the road at the end of the month.

Officials with the navigation app Waze have narrowed down the best and worst times that you can drive during the Thanksgiving holiday. After crunching the numbers Waze predicts that people will start to leave town on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving, at 1:00 p.m. Freeways will start to get clogged around 4:00 p.m. and will stay packed until 8 o’clock.

On Wednesday Waze says the traffic will be bad from 11 a.m. through the day. So when is the best time to hit the road? According to Waze, it’s the morning of Thanksgiving Day.

That’s it! Take a deep breath, and have a fun holiday!
