DALLAS (CBS11) – The demolition process of the parking garage of the Renaissance at Turtle Creek condominium complex began Monday.
Back in October, the seven-story parking garage partially collapsed – trapping more than 300 cars inside.
An 800-ton crane will be used to deconstruct the damaged section of the garage.
“This deconstruction is a piece-by-piece, very delicate, very strategic process,” HOA board member Dedie Leahy said.
Leahy said the demolition process could be done by January. Reconstruction of the garage will follow. The entire project is expected to take five to six months.
The HOA is still talking with experts to determine the best method to get the hundreds of trapped cars out the garage.
The large crane could be used in getting some of them out.
Leahy said this is all “uncharted territory” and will have to be a “fluid process.”
Many residents have noted despite the parking problems and around the clock construction noise, they feel very fortunate that no one was injured when the collapsed occurred.
Leahy said the cause of the collapse remains under investigation.
