It’s become an annual tradition that every year around Christmas time, I do a blog post on the site, awarding you my Top 10 songs of the year 2015. Unfortunately, it’s a page that probably doesn’t get as many clicks as our corporate overlords would like due to my penchant for obscure indie rock music. Either way, tradition is tradition, so here are my favorite 10 songs of the year 2015! Happy holidays!

  1. “I’ve Retired” by No Monster Club

This is a band that I quite frankly don’t know a whole lot about besides that they sometimes open up for the Dallas band The Polyphonic Spree when they’re in Europe. I’ve taken this song and made it a station return cut because of how awesome the fuzzy bass line is right off the top. At least give it ten seconds to enjoy the fuzzy bass.

  1. “Can’t Get Happy” by Only Real

1/3 Third Eye Blind, 1/3 Oasis, and 1/3 the least famous guy in Blink 182 forms this.

  1. “Distant Past” by Everything Everything

I heard Shippy jamming to this one day when he was playing FIFA 16, because it’s on the soundtrack of that game. I also think that the chorus kind of sounds like Jimmy Fallon singing in a high voice.

  1. “People In The Station” by Featherwest

I’ll admit this song is a little weird. I think the main reason I like it is because I work at a radio station, and the song is called “People in the Station”, so it just makes me think about all my co-workers. I mean just picture Chris Arnold walking around a building when you hear this song, and I think you’ll understand what I mean.

  1. “Sharks” by Best Boy Grip

I’m not sure what this song is about, but I think it might be about the realization that you’re a fish and not a human. Either way, I like some punk rock from time to time.

  1. “Johnny Delusional” by FFS

Indie rock legends Franz Ferdinand and Sparks collaborate to form the band FFS, and it was one of my favorite albums of the year.  This song has human resources written all over it. I’m pretty sure it’s about a fairly unattractive male lusting after the hot chick at work. Every time I hear this song, I think about the old Tom Brady SNL sketch where he can get away with any version of sexual harassment, meanwhile Fred Armisen is turned in for doing basically nothing wrong. I also like a big chorus and this song provides that.

  1. “I’m The Man To Be” by EL VY

I’m not going to post a video because this song has a lot of bad language. This is a really fun song by the side project EL VY which is helmed by the lead singer of The National. Go find it, and enjoy!

  1. “Ice Black Sand” by Reptar

Reptar was the name of the dinosaur on Rugrats. This isn’t typically a band that i’ve enjoyed over the years but this song is really catchy.

  1. “4th and Roebling” by The Districts

Just some good ole rock n roll music right here, again from a band that i’m not that in to. I hope you like it.

  1. “The Ground Walks with Time In A Box” by Modest Mouse

Not only is Modest Mouse one of my all-time favorite bands, but their 2015 album “Strangers To Ourselves” was by far my favorite complete album of the year.  It’s a grooving rock song at heart, but don’t count out the banjo and horns putting up a fight.  I like this jam!!!
