HOUSTON (AP) — A judge has denied bond for a 37-year-old man charged with arson for a Christmas Day fire at a Houston mosque.

The attorney for Gary Nathaniel Moore argued Thursday that Moore has ties to Houston and isn’t a flight risk. State District Judge Jan Crocker refused to set bond and says she won’t reconsider unless Moore surrenders his passport at another hearing set for next week.

Court documents indicate Moore was a member of the mosque for about five years, praying there five times daily.

Prosecutors say surveillance video shows Moore leaving the mosque and that lighter fluid found at his home was the same as the accelerant used at the fire.

Defense lawyer Ed Chernoff says Moore tells him he wasn’t responsible for the fire.
