Those who knew Brittany Daniel best, gathered near the site of the shooting Sunday night with purple and white balloons. They came not only to honor her memory but to put her killer on notice.
Since his daughter’s death, Malcolm Daniel has leaned on loved ones to help his family through the grief.
“Every night we’ve had a little family gathering, and it gets bigger and bigger and bigger,” Malcolm Daniel said.
Sunday night the family decided to share that gathering with the public hoping that someone with information about Brittany’s killer will be moved to come forward.
“That’s the only thing that gets my family through it,” Malcolm Daniel said.
It was just before 7:00 p.m. Wednesday when Daniel was giving a co-worker a ride home. That’s when police say another car started weaving through traffic. The suspected shooter was sitting in the back seat of that car and began yelling obscenities. Investigators say Daniel had a brief exchange with the man, who then pulled a gun and fired twice.
“We need to get the word out that we want justice for Brittany Daniel,” Brittany’s cousin, Lisa Love said as she gathered people together for a balloon release.READ MORE: Juan Navarro, Jr. Sentenced To 35+ Years For Pornographic Images Of Six-Year-Olds
Love also came with a message for the shooter.
“We want the coward to know that whoever is responsible for our baby girl, Brittany Daniel, that she has a lot of love and support,” Love said.
Many described Brittany as a loyal friend and vowed to raise awareness for their fight for justice.
“She always stood up for her friends when her friends were afraid to stand up for themselves. She was always helping everybody out,” Brittany’s friend Epphanie Miles said.
Now family members hope this sign of support can help prompt a break in the investigation.
“Of course we love Brittany, and we know y’all love her too. Thank everybody, and remember, everybody, keep your ears open,” Malcolm Daniel told the crowd.
Family members say they are in touch with the detectives on this case.
Police tell CBS11 they continue to work leads, and they ask anyone with any information about the shooting to contact them.
