DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – Dallas police continue to search for the man who allegedly spied on a woman in a local gym locker room. Investigators are now looking at surveillance video, in hopes of getting more clues.
Police are looking into allegations that the Peeping Tom snuck into the women’s locker room at the Planet Fitness gym, in the 3200 block of Camp Wisdom Drive, to watch and record a woman as she showered.
Just before the lunch hour, several detectives with the Dallas Police Department were inside the Planet Fitness location, trying to find out if surveillance video captured clear images of the man accused of being a Peeping Tom.
The victim first spoke with CBS 11 News on Monday, and said the incident left her feeling violated. She explained that she went to the gym very late Sunday night and took a shower after her workout, just after midnight Monday. While showering, the woman said she saw a cell phone and a man. The woman said the man didn’t react when she screamed and went for help. She said the man walked away quickly and calmly.
Some gym members, who found out about the Peeping Tom after the CBS 11 report, said that while they feel they are careful, it doesn’t hurt to remind others to be more cautious.
Gym member Erin Oquin said, “My advice would be: if you come with someone, if you’re going to the restroom, never go alone. Just always make sure you have someone with you… if you just feel uncomfortable.”
While others may be taking steps to keep themselves safe, gym member Nikkie Walton said she realizes the incident must have been traumatic for the victim. “Invasion of privacy is something that is hard to recover from. So, I don’t think there’s any bouncing back from that, especially for that young lady. I really do feel bad for her.”
Representatives with Planet Fitness did not say whether they will alert gym members at the location, or if there are any plans to change up their security measures, but did release the following statement:
“The franchise owner is working very closely with the local authorities to investigate this matter, as the safety and privacy of our members is Planet Fitness’ number one priority.”
The suspect, according to the victim, was wearing a Marines t-shirt when the incident happened Monday and drove from the location in a black newer model Chevy Impala, that had a military license plate.
