A 36-year-old woman inside the store was trapped under the SUV and rushed to Parkland Hospital via helicopter. She is in critical condition.
Another customer, a 44-year-old woman, also went to the hospital. She is in stable condition.
Police suspected that the 68-year-old driver, Carlos Guajardo, had been drinking when he crashed into the convenience store. Witnesses who were inside the store at the time of the wreck were surprised more people were not hurt judging by the sound and size of the damage.
“Sounded like the whole world was crashing down. You know it sounded like the ceiling was falling on the store,” said Charlie Hall, who was inside the store at the time.
Employees of the store said to make matters worse, the area that was plowed into was where they stored their high-end liquor. The cabinet is now destroyed.
