Robert Hurst, spokesman for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, says the bus carrying 31 inmates and two guards collided Friday morning with a pickup near Gustine, about 90 miles from Waco.

Twenty-one of the inmates were transported to various hospitals in the region and five of them taken by helicopter. The remaining 10 inmates were taken to the TDCJ prison unit in Gatesville, which has an infirmary.
