DALLAS (CBSDFW) – An attempted sexual assault outside an apartment complex on Swiss Avenue sent a chill through students at the neighboring Dallas Theological Seminary a block away.
“We were a bit alarmed,” said third year seminary student Julie Fendrick. “The campus police sent out a warning to the students about what happened.”
According to campus police sources, Dallas Theological Seminary warned more 1,200 students by email, text and voicemail that this man was prowling the area.
Surveillance video from the apartment shows a man trying to enter the Swissair apartment complex. He is a black male, about 5′ 10″ and carried a distinctive black and white backpack and red tennis shoes. Minutes after failing to entered the locked apartment building, police say the man attempted to sexually assault a woman right outside the door.
“It’s always kind of scary when it’s right near campus,” Fendrick said.
Police have warned the students on this pedestrian-heavy campus to take extra precautions around the campus perimeter.
“We don’t usually go out at night,” Fendrick said. “I don’t go out alone, especially in evenings. And if I do I usually stay on campus.”
And the small campus police force has stepped up its patrols.
“We don’t want that type of person around here,” said DTS Police Officer Vickie Whiteside. “This is Dallas Theological Seminary, we’re Christians. But I want to keep us safe and I want the Baylor nurses down here safe as well as the people at Swissaire.”
