RICHARDSON (CBS11) – Proving she’s a fighter, miracle baby Ruby Silva turned one Tuesday.

She came into the world last March as the tiniest baby ever born at Methodist Richardson Medical Center.

Born at nearly 23 weeks, Ruby weighed one pound.

Her parents could not be happier about her progress.

“She’s holding, playing with toys.  She’s doing a lot of progress now,” says her father David Silva.

“She started eating solids, too.  Solid food,” says her mother Mirna Contreras.

Fitting in the palm of a hand, doctors only gave Ruby a 17 percent chance of surviving.

Her parents say one year later, they are blessed.
