DALLAS (CBSDFW/1080 KRLD) – When at the movies, some of us find ourselves distracted when others are on their phones. But due to demand, text friendly theaters may be the new future.

AMC Theaters is working to get more millenials to come to the movies, and as part of that effort they’re considering allowing people to text throughout a whole film if they want.

AMC’s CEO Adam Aron told Variety  the company wants to reach those younger people who don’t want to give up their phones for the duration of a movie.

“When you tell a 22-year-old to turn off the phone, don’t ruin the movie, they hear please cut off your left arm above the elbow.” Aron told Variety. “You can’t tell a 22-year-old to turn off their cellphone. That’s not how they live their life.”

But for those who still want to enjoy the movie without distractions, AMC would either make certain sections or whole auditoriums texting friendly.

Many North Texans think it’s a terrible idea but say it could be interesting to see whether other movie theaters would jump on board too.
