ENNIS (CBSDFW.COM) – A former Ellis County sheriffs deputy is behind bars, accused of stealing guns from the department and selling them.
Authorities said Phillip Slaughter stole guns out of the evidence room and sold some of them at nearby pawn shops. In all, they said Slaughter stole 16 guns after signing paperwork that he was going to destroy them to clear out space. Instead, he sold three handguns to pawn shops and tried to sell others to willing buyers.
Several more guns from the department were found in Slaughters Waxahachie home. He was a 15 year veteran of the Ellis County sheriffs department. He resigned from the department last month.
