DECATUR (CBS11 News) – Dorothy Reid is always on the go, whether it’s tending to her property in Decatur or traveling the world.READ MORE: 19-Year-Old Tello Hernandez Faces Intoxication Manslaughter Charge Following Fatal Crash
“I’ve been to Israel, Greece, Turkey, all over Russia, Spain, Norway,” said Reid, whose next adventure was supposed to be a trip to New Zealand with her sister until an accident sidelined her. “Until I decided to crawl through a fence and my hip popped out of place. That was the end of our trip,” said Reid.
Reid had put both $3,000 trips on her Citibank credit card. She wasn’t worried since their trip was covered under Citibank’s insurance policy. She had called the company before she paid for the trips to make sure she was covered. “They said the whole thing would be insured,” said Reid.
When Reid called Citibank to cancel, the company said they would refund her trip but not the $3,000 she paid for her sister’s trip.
“Because she wasn’t a spouse, child or caretaker. That’s not fair, that’s not honest. They said they would pay and they didn’t,” said Reid.
Reid’s attorney sent a letter and didn’t get a response so she called CBS11 for Consumer Justice. The next day, Reid received her $3,000 refund.READ MORE: Homeowner Terry Duane Turner Charged In Slaying Of Motorist Adil Dghoughi In His Driveway
“I finally spoke up and you beat it and I appreciate it,” said Reid.
Reid’s advice to anyone else getting a refund runaround?
“I think they should contact you and maybe they can get justice like I have,” said Reid.
Citibank said they couldn’t talk about specific customer issues because of privacy concerns but said they were able to resolve Reid’s issue.
Consumer Justice Travel Trips:
♦ If you book your families trips on your card–get the refund policy in writing so you know what’s covered.
♦ Be aware of exclusions to your coverage like a pre-existing medical condition.
♦ After research your card’s policy you might consider purchasing travel insurance from a separate company.
