DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – After several tense hours, a SWAT standoff in the Fair Park area of Dallas has ended.

Dozens of police officers and members of the Dallas Police Department SWAT team were involved in the standoff at a house in the 2600 block of Peabody Avenue, just east of Interstate-45. Several streets in the area were closed as officials tried to resolve the situation.

Dallas police were first informed after receiving a call about an armed encounter around 4 a.m. When officers arrived they discovered two neighbors had been arguing and the situation escalated when one of them pulled out a gun.

A member of the Dallas Police Department explained that, “During the course of the argument the suspect retrieved a rifle and pointed it at the neighbor. The neighbor immediately left the location and called for police.”

Police say the suspect was arguing with the neighbor because their car was blocking his driveway.

SWAT spent several hours negotiating with a man, trying to get him to surrender. Just before 11 a.m. police could be heard trying to make contact with the man over a loud speaker.

A neighbor told CBS 11 News that the male suspect surrendered peacefully. A woman, who was also inside the house, was taken into custody.

The suspect is facing aggravated assault charges.
