MESQUITE (CBSDFW.COM) – The city of Mesquite is investigating after a family pet was accidentally euthanized at the city’s animal shelter.
Several speakers who are upset about the shelter’s mistake said it’s part of a pattern of failures. But the most emotional testimony came from the dog’s owner who is devastated over “Peppy’s” death.
“I broke down because that was part of my life being taken away from me,” said Peppy’s devoted owner, Chris Swain. “He had his full collar on. He had all his identification on him…”
The city’s spokesperson said it plans to improve the process by which animals are admitted into the shelter. How exactly that will change, though, has not been decided.
