IRVING (105.3 THE FAN) – The Cowboys on Friday waived cornerback Terrance Mitchell and Brandon McGee, the Mitchell move registering as a surprise … with team sources telling me the openings are not designed to make room for Brandon Boykin.

Mitchell played three games for the Cowboys at the end of last season and recorded just one of two interceptions by Dallas cornerbacks in 2015. McGee (technically waived/injured) has played for the Giants and the Rams.

The Cowboys have Orlando Scandrick, Mo Claiborne and Brandon Carr atop the depth chart and while sources tell me Dallas will search for other DB bodies for the 90-man roster, the veteran Boykin — who had a workout with Dallas this week — is not in the team’s plans at this time.
