FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) – We’re testing the strength of some popular coolers as we get into the hottest time of the year.

Consumer justice reporter Cristin Severance put four coolers head-to-head in the Texas heat for 24 hours.

We used $379.00 Yeti 50 quart, the Coleman Xtreme 5 day 70 quart for $49.99, the Rubbermaid 60 quart for $34.99 and a styrofoam cooler for $2 for our test.

We stocked each cooler two 10 pound bags of ice each, fruit, sandwiches and thermometers to record the temperature.

After 24 hours, the styrofoam was at 60 degrees but had a surprising amount of ice inside.

The Coleman and the Rubbermaid were the coldest at just above 40 degrees but both had a lot of water.

The Yeti was at 50 degrees and appeared to have the most ice out of all the coolers.
