ENNIS, TX (CBSDFW.COM) – Ennis Police have wrapped up a seven- hour manhunt Tuesday afternoon and arrested the people they say shot at their officers.

A man and woman ran into the rural countryside at the Ellis and Navarro County line after a car chase.

Police say the pair was wanted for a drive-by shooting when they took off, firing at police.

Dogs tracked the man and woman for 12 miles before they were caught.

In light of recent police shootings, law enforcement was extremely cautious during the manhunt.

“Especially with what’s been going on across Texas and the United States we take this very seriously,” said Navarro County Sheriff Elmer Tanner. “We have obviously reason to believe with them firing on the officers the officers lives could be in danger.”

Ennis officers had plenty of back up from Ellis and Navarro deputies, state troopers and the Texas Department of Corrections.
