DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – The Potter’s House filled with thousands of officers from across the country who traveled to North Texas to pay their respects for fallen DART Police Officer Brent Thompson.READ MORE: Olympic Champ Biles Out Of Team Finals With Apparent Injury
The officer was remembered as a man of service to his country and his community.
His daughter Katie Thompson spoke at the ceremony and said, “It’s been so overwhelming seeing all of you all here for our dad and honoring him, and just giving us respect for what he has done for us.”
His youngest daughter Sandy also spoke saying, “I would always say to my dad when he would walk out there is goodbye daddy be safe. I love you. Tonight we say our final good bye daddy, I love you. Be safe.”READ MORE: American Airlines Worried About Fuel Shortages At Some Airports
Outside the event the officers lined up in formation as a riderless horse walked past the officers casket. Soon after a fly over saluting the officer and the sacrifice that he made.
Officer Thompson’s wife Emily Thompson recalled the moment the two wed just 3 short weeks prior to the shooting that killed her husband.
She said, “I married the most amazing caring loving selfless man I’ve ever known.”
