DALLAS (KRLD) – Today is Dollar Day at the Dallas Zoo, which never fails to bring in crowds. Many take advantage of the $1 admission price to spend the day seeing their favorite wild cats, primates, elephants, and more.
Some have chosen today to visit for the very first time.
“I thought it would be a great and cheap opportunity to bring the kids,” says Cheryl, who came with her son and daughter. “He loves the bears, and she loves the flamingos.”
But many are using today’s rock bottom admission price to try and capture their own rare creatures.
The Dallas Zoo is a hotspot for Pokémon Go. Several zoo landmarks are featured Pokéstops, where players can check in.
“Hopefully we’ll find a rare Pokémon today,” says Peter, who is playing the game with several of his friends. “We’re just wandering around to see what we can catch.”
Peter says he and his friends are certainly getting their money’s worth out of Dollar Day.
“We’re here for the animals,” he says. “But the Pokémon are a really awesome plus.”
At the Dallas Zoo, snacks are also $1 today. Carousel rides are $2, and $5 will let you feed the giraffes or ride the newly opened Wilds of Africa monorail. Misters and cooling stations are working to keep people cool on this hot day.
Parking is $8, but Dallas Zoo officials recommend taking the DART Red Line.
