NEW BRAUNFELS (CBSDFW.COM/AP) — Officials say a Texas teenager has died after apparently drowning while tubing down the Guadalupe River in New Braunfels.

According to the San Antonio Express-News, New Braunfels police said in a news release that David Akinropo of Converse, about 25 miles northeast of San Antonio, was floating on the river Tuesday when he feel out of his tube.

Police say the teen briefly struggled to stay afloat but then went under the water.

First-responders with the New Braunfels Fire Department searched the waters until they found the  17-year-old’s body. Rescuers attempted to revive him but he was pronounced dead at a hospital.
