Deborah Burdette lives in Vernon.

She walked into her kitchen and saw a long rat snake.

“I was mad at that point. I said I’m not letting that sucker get away,” said Burdette. “So, I grabbed it with both hands. I reached and got a meat cleaver and then I just chopped it.”

The scare didn’t stop there. She said later that night, “I went to set the glass in the sink and a snake struck me.”

Burdette killed that snake, too and called 911 for the bite.
