GARLAND (CBSDFW.COM) – The Garland Fire Department responded to an apartment fire on the 220 block of I-30 early Saturday morning.

When the fire department arrived, they found a female who escaped the the apartment.

According to officials, the female told firefighters there were two other people inside the apartment still.

Firefighters located and extracted two males from the apartment.

The female and one of the males were transported to Parkland Hospital in serious condition.

Officials said the other male was transported to Dallas Regional Hospital also in serious condition.

The Dallas County Medical Examiner confirmed that one of the males, a 43-year-old, passed away from injuries suffered in the fire.

The 43-year-old was identified as Donald Hurmann.

The other two people remain hospitalized.

Officials believe the fire started in the kitchen of the apartment and only affected this one unit.
