FORT WORTH (KRLD-AM) – The message is simple: Hazing will not be tolerated at TCU.
Dean of Campus Life, Dr. David Cozzens sent the memo out to all students, faculty and staff, reminding them that hazing is not only against school policy, it’s against the law.
“We want to remind them on a regular basis that this is what it is, this is the definition and these are the penalties,” Dr. Cozzens said.
State law defines hazing as an act that endangers the mental or physical well-being of a student for the purpose of inclusion in an organization.
“It could mean having people drink mass quantities of liquid,” said Cozzens. “It could be alcohol. It could be water. It could be any kind of forced consumption.”
In the last three years, all the organizations that have been disciplined for hazing have been fraternities.
Even though the memo comes on the heels of the expulsion of the Phi Kappa Sigma fraternity, Cozzens says the memo is actually sent out every year, and that the timing is merely a coincidence.
