DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – A victory Tuesday for the City of Dallas as leaders try to stop a landlord from evicting approximately 300 families in the next few days.

The city won a restraining order against HMK, stopping the evictions for the next two weeks.

Dallas leaders say the property company is retaliating against tenants who complained their homes were in poor condition.

“What scares me is that a weird game of chicken is being played here,” said Mayor Mike Rawlings. “First of all they are trying to scare the tenants and trying to scare the city because they are upholding their standards of housing and saying bad things are going to happen to poor people, and the city isn’t going to let that happen.”

Mayor Rawlings said the restraining order buys the city time to negotiate with HMK to try to find a better solution than mass evictions.
