Mitch Whitten, with the Fort Worth Convention and Visitors Bureau, detailed how tourism is pouring millions into the city. “We decided to renovated the visitor’s center because of the success of Sundance Square and all that’s going on downtown. Tourism represents now a $2 billion economic impact in Fort Worth every year, so the industry’s really growing.”
According to the CVB, Fort Worth is the 16th largest city in the United States. Whitten said ‘Cowtown’ has been a tourist destination for years and the city wants to keep those numbers growing.
“It’s really been a story of about 30 years rebuilding downtown Fort Worth and strategic planning to commit to the core of our city,” he said. “We have so many visitors coming down, millions a year, and now more than 150 events and programs in Sundance Square. We have so much pedestrian traffic that we renovated our Visitor’s Center to help everybody and welcome them to Fort Worth.”READ MORE: Wrong Way Crash On I-30 Kills At Least One In Fort Worth
The new Visitor Center includes a new exhibit called ‘A Brief History of Fort Worth’ that includes a timeline and artifacts curated by the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History.
And while giant scissors and picture taking is fine, Whitten said the block party during the unveiling, between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. in Sundance Square, will not be a stale, boring ribbon-cutting. “Mayor Price is going to show up and say a few words about the building, it’s actually one of the oldest buildings in downtown Fort Worth. So, Mayor Price is going to help us dedicate the space and we’re going to have an oversized passport that she’s gonna stamp and officially open the space.”
The new Main Street Visitor Center in Sundance Square will be open Monday through Thursday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.MORE NEWS: 4 Interceptions Including A Pick 6 Help Deliver 27-17 Victory For Cowboys Over Saints
