PEARLAND (AP) — One person has died in the crash of a small, experimental aircraft south of Houston.
The Federal Aviation Administration says the crash about 6 p.m. Wednesday involved a single-engine Wittman Tailwind. The aircraft is home-built from a kit and can carry a pilot and one passenger.
Sgt. Stephen Woodard of the Texas Department of Public Safety says the plane went down shortly after takeoff from Pearland Regional Airport, about 20 miles southeast of Houston. He said the aircraft’s lone occupant, 36-year-old Jared Baxter Ryan of Houston, died in the crash on airport property.
FAA spokesman Lynn Lunsford says the National Transportation Safety Board will take charged of the investigation.
