ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) – The mayor of Arlington is taking heat for some comments made during a meeting with local business leaders. Comments the pro-stadium side says were taken out of context.
The group Citizens for a Better Arlington released a 20-minute recording of Mayor Jeff Williams, during which he offered some choice words for those opposing the retractable-roof ballpark that Arlington residents are currently voting on.
Williams acknowledged that the pro-ballpark campaign is being out-voted in early voting. He then offered some choice words about the opponents.
In the recording Williams says, “They don’t have the facts right, and, either that or they do not have the intelligence there to be able to translate that we are investing money in the entertainment district to make money.”
Brian Mayes with the campaign supporting the new stadium says he supports the Mayor’s remarks.
“He was very clearly talking about a small group of 7 – 10 people that have shown that when it comes to their campaign, facts are only an option” said Mayes.
