NORTH TEXAS (CBSDFW.COM) – As the results came in and the election map filled with red republicans in North Texas celebrated. Donald Trump’s supporters wanted a revolution in politics and they feel that’s what they got.

Many at the Dallas County republican watch party refused to leave the hotel ballroom until they’d heard Trump’s acceptance speech and afterward said they liked what he had to say.

Supporters thought the president-elect gave a humble speech and liked how he talked about uniting both parties. They said they feel like this election motivated a silent majority and that everyone’s vote counts.

“You know what, I really didn’t know to be honest with you. I was really… I thought he was gonna win, I thought the momentum was building as it got further along in the campaign,” said supporter Jeff Brownlee. “I didn’t know if he was gonna win tight. It’s always a little scary when you start seeing the maps light up blue and red, but I was pleased with the results and I think we deserve to give him a chance.”

It was a long, hard fought, and often negative race and many republicans said they weren’t certain how it would end until Hillary Clinton made the congratulatory phone call to Trump.

Another Trump supporter said, “I’m grateful that Secretary Clinton did call our president-elect to congratulate him. Certainly it was a surprise for many people including many of us in this room but we are al very pleased and we feel like he gave a very humble speech.”

While there is excitement among North Texas republicans, many expressed hope that Trump can unite the country and they want to see what he can do with this opportunity.

Trump supporter Dan Mannering said, “The reason that you vote is because then you can complain if you don’t do what you expect them to do. But I expect them to do but I expect the Republican Party to hold true to their beliefs.”

Governor Greg Abbott says he’s looking forward to working with the billionaire. And as to Trump’s promise to build a wall along the U.S. Mexican border, Abbott said he looks “forward to working with the new administration to ensure that we secure our border.”

Phillip Huffines the recently elected chairman of the Dallas County Republican Party also expressed his feeling on Twitter.

On the Trump victory the political action committee Tea Party Express released a statement this morning that said, in part –

“Last night shocked everyone in the mainstream media, everyone in the political class, and all of the liberals who were blinded by the failures of the progressive agenda that they couldn’t understand the Trump appeal and what the Tea Party has tried to achieve However, we weren’t surprised.
