DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – Just before the holiday season begins, some residents in one North Texas neighborhood were hit hard by thieves.

Glenn Heights police said in the Sunrise Meadow neighborhood near Ovilla and Hampton Roads, seven homes were burglarized in 12 days.

Pamela Hamilton said she was the first resident victimized by the thieves.

But since then, Hamilton has upgraded security around her house and suggested others do the same. “I recommend that they take a layered approach to make sure their homes and families are safe. Use the alarm, use the video door bell system and cut down bushes.”

After thieves struck, Hamilton said she made flyers and used the Next Door App to bring neighbors together.

She took action after burglars kicked in her front door during an afternoon last week. Thieves took a weapon and several pieces of jewelry, and one of her neighbors had everything stolen including TV’s, computers, and other electronics.

Police said the two teenaged suspects were arrested Monday on unrelated charges.

Hamilton said the Next Door App came in handy by helping neighbors easily exchange information.

“It allowed us to print out flyers, arrange some meetings, talk about who we thought the suspects were, what they were driving, so in a little time we already knew what vehicle they were driving, and it had to be at least two of them.”
