DALLAS (CBS11)DFW Wreaths for Heroes has a mission to cover all of the grave markers of the heroes buried at DFW National Cemetery.

More than 27,000 fallen veterans are buried there and volunteers are seeking donations for wreaths to put on graves during the holiday season.

Wreaths are $15 each and for every two that are sponsored, a third is received free of charge.

Co-founder of DFW Wreaths for Heroes Rebecca Maddux said as of Wednesday morning they had 32 percent of the graves sponsored with 9,400.

“We hope that number will continue to grow,’ said Maddux. ‘To me it just symbolizes gratitude and honor, honoring those who have sacrificed so much not just for me and my family but for all of our families and to be able to live here in this country.”

The sponsorship deadline is November 28.
