GARLAND (CBS11) – A Garland couple is furious after their 7-year-old daughter fell asleep on the school bus and missed her stop at Walnut Glen Academy.

The couple said when their daughter woke up, she yelled out, but the driver continued on to the bus barn.

The driver then put her in his personal car and drove her to school.

“They had an obligation to reach out to myself or her father and let us know something,” said Zermikia Harris, the child’s mother.  “That news should not have come from our 7-year-old daughter.”

The parents said the district showed them video from the bus that confirms their daughter’s story and add their daughter is having nightmares over the incident.

Garland ISD said it has addressed the incident and that it has checks and balances in place to ensure student safety.
