DALLAS, Texas (CBSDFW.COM) – A construction worker has died, after a driver plowed into a crew doing street repairs.

It happened Tuesday afternoon on West Kiest Boulevard, near Mountain Creek Parkway, just behind Dallas Baptist University.

Construction workers were in the eastbound lanes, when the driver approached on the westbound side.

Witnesses report the man’s SUV crossed the median, bounced off a loader, then hit two workers.

Dallas Fire-Rescue confirms one man was pronounced dead at the hospital.

A second worker and the driver of the SUV both suffered what the fire department described as non-life threatening injuries.

The company doing the work, O Trevino Construction, would not identify the employee killed, but told CBS 11 News he has been with them for a long time.

Dallas Police have not made an arrest and have not yet determined what caused the driver to crash.

“This curb is a tough one to negotiate and so it could be a lot of different factors here. So I’m gonna let the investigators who are back here working and trained specifically with these situations finish their investigation,” said Sr Cpl Demarquis Black.

As tragic as the crash was, a company representative, said, it could have been worse.

The driver, he said, came within inches of hitting several other workers.
