www.dawnthesavvystylist.comDawn M. Mellon is a Dallas stylist. She assists an individual by looking at what is in their wardrobe and works with them on the image they want to portray. She helps create an image for the client that is age appropriate, suitable to the client’s lifestyle and is flattering to their figure and body type.
“A piece of advice I give to all of my clients: Just because something is in style, doesn’t mean it’s your style,” said Mellon. “If a particular trend doesn’t flatter your body type, isn’t age appropriate, doesn’t compliment your skin tone or you hair color or, for any other reason, doesn’t enhance the way you look, then don’t adopt it. In my opinion, it’s important to be selective when it comes to choosing which trends are best for you.”
“When you’re updating your look, it’s imperative to consider every aspect of what makes up your look — your clothes are just a part of it. You also have to keep your hairstyle up to date and periodically revisit the way you apply your makeup,” said Mellon.
Know Your Body TypeFor years people have called the hourglass shape the “ideal” shape, but there are lots of options for people with other body types. If you have a pear-shape, a cropped jacket that adds volume to your shoulders and emphasizes your waist, paired with boot cut slacks or jeans, will balance out your look. If you are an inverted triangle shape, you will want to wear an open neckline and for a bottom you will want to create volume by wearing a fuller skirt or jeans with back pockets. If you have a boyish figure, you will want to wear something fitted and cinched-in to create a waistline. If you have a round or apple-shaped body, you will want to wear an open neckline, a cinched waist and consider a wrap dress, which can create the illusion of an hourglass shape.
Throwback To The 70sThere will be a resurgence of flare-leg pants, culottes, turtleneck sweaters and patchwork prints this fall. A suede jacket with fringe is a dazzler and in for this season.
Restyling HistoryThe pantsuit that we knew from the 70s is not today’s pantsuit. It is a much sleeker silhouette.
Romantic BlousesThe classic white blouse with a romantic twist is what is in store for the season. You will see bows, ruffled sleeves and high Victorian-type necklines.
What’s The Dust Up?The floor-length dusters in wool, cotton, suede and heavily embroidered silk are in this season.

Color RangeThere is a color palate for everybody this season. Pantone colors that are muted, like oakbuff and dried fig, will be classics. Contrasting those colors with traditional red will make your ensemble pop.
Happy FeetThis season promises to be good to every woman’s desire for shoes. Everything from flats to thigh high boots with big chunky heels are style in this season. You will see the use of color blocking and patchwork patterns in footwear. Lanvin, Etro and Prada have elevated simple patchwork patterns into sophisticated footwear.
Big AccessoriesThe focus for many seasons has been statement necklaces. This season, oversized statement earrings in various geometric shapes will be the accessory that draws everyone’s attention.
Hair And Makeup For hair, the severe side part is something that can be flattering on many people. It is “officially” in style, and it’s something you can do regardless of the length of your hair. Minimal makeup – the light pink tone called “Just bitten lip” is the look that is “in” and if you are adventurous, you may want to try outlandishly-applied eyeliner in the color of your choice.
