My female clients always want to know how they are supposed to continue looking fabulous when the temperatures rise to 100 degrees. I tell them that looking haute in the Texas heat is not for the fashion faint of heart. I have spent hundreds of hours this season putting together my clients’ best looks for the warm weather and have come up with the most important pieces to add to a summer wardrobe.  Whether you combine all of these fashions to create a single outfit or you wear these pieces separately with other wardrobe staples, these items will keep you looking fashionable, even when you think you are melting!

Tops with Color, Texture, Pattern and/or Sheen

Don’t except to throw on a white t-shirt this summer and feel like a million bucks.  Even in the heat, it is important to select tops that represent your personal style and add interest to an outfit. Color, texture, pattern and sheen are important aspects of style that allow you to express your fashion personality. And, starting any outfit with a fabulous top is like building a house on a very solid (and chic!) foundation. Use these patterned and textured tops for fashion inspiration from Neiman Marcus and Forever 21.

Shorts or Crop Pants

You should always select your summer bottoms based on your “show a little leg” comfort level.  There are a variety of styles and shapes of both shorts and crops. The important thing is to identify the style and shape that is right for you. If you love your legs, don’t be afraid to select thigh-high shorts with a cuff (like this pair from Urban Outfitters).  If you are thigh conscious, but still like your calves, opt for a bermuda short that hits just above the knee.  If you want to keep cool without baring your legs, select a crop in a slim cut (like this pair from Talbots) or a cuffed, relaxed crop (for a slouchy boyfriend style).

Sandals or WedgesShoes are an important aspect of summer style. It is imperative to select shoe staples that are comfortable, easy to walk in and compliment your body. Skip the gladiator look if you want to keep the attention off of your ankles, and if you want to length your leg line, select shoes that do not cover the top portion of your foot. Be daring enough to pair your shorts and crops with your wedges. A little height can go a long way in lengthening and slimming your legs. Who doesn’t love that?! You can find these great shoes at DSW and Dillards.

A Go-To Tote Bag

An oversized tote is a must-have these days, no matter what the season. A super, slouchy tote will give your outfit a casual and summery element.  Consider a bag in loose straw or light-weight cotton fabric for a totally warm-weather look like this one from J. Crew.

 Statement Earrings

Statement earrings will take your summer outfit to a show-stopping level.  Leaving home without your accessories is like forgetting to frost a cupcake. Scandalous! Skip the heavy layered necklaces in the heat and opt for easy, dangling earrings that will keep your neck cool and add a little bling to any outfit. Play with summer colors, like coral, stone and turquoise, in your earring selection, and don’t worry too much about matching your accessories to the other pieces in your outfit, try these from Anthropologie.
