The EPA says the so called flexible air permitting program has to change. The 16 year old pollution permitting program for industry is officially overturned by the EPA. The Environmental Defense Fund’s Jim Marston says it’s possible the TCEQ will go through each individual permit but he’s hoping the legislature will order TCEQ to fix the whole program. “I hope we do have legislators that say come on now guys.” Meantime the TCEQ votes against an idea to weaken e-coli contamination standards at lakes and rivers. The Sierra Club’s Ken Kramer says that’s “at least a partial victory. Certainly it’s a clear triumph for public input.” He says however we should guard against future attempts to change the standards.
