A mesquite man who rushed to help a person is recovering from a gunshot wound.  Velbert Reed was walking along Northwest Highway Friday morning when he heard a man call out for help, but it turned out to be a trap. When Reed rushed over to help, the man pointed a gun at him and demanded his money. During a struggle, Reed was shot in the shoulder and is now recovering. The suspect fled the scene.
