Witnesses were shocked and helpless as they watched a small plane plummet into a deadly, fiery crash in Denton County last night. A husband-and-wife in the plane were rushed to Parkland Hospital in Dallas where one later died. The other has serious burns and other injuries from the crash around 7 p.m. Sunday evening. Denton police began getting 911 calls just after the single-engine aircraft lifted off from Denton Municipal Airport. The pilot radioed that he was having trouble gaining altitude and then the plane veered sharply to the right and nose-dived into a field about a miles southwest of the airport. The FAA has opened its investigation but it’s too early to say why the plane lost power.
