Fireman Dies From Off Duty Fall

A Lancaster fireman has died from injuries in an off-duty accident, leaving the city grieving the second death of a public servant in the past month.  Firefighter Joel Otwell fell at church on Sunday and died yesterday.  The 21-year veteran was one of the first responders who were called on Father’s Day when Lancaster policeman Craig Shaw was killed in a shootout with the adult son of the Dallas police chief.  Joel Otwell’s funeral will be Monday at Denton Bible Church.  The city is planning a public memorial in Lancaster but the date has not been determined.
