July sales tax collections this year topped last year by 2.2 percent overall.  Comptroller’s Spokesman RJ DeSilva hopes this trend continues.  “Last year we have 14 straight months of drops and now we’re dealing with four straight months of increases.”  DeSilva says something else was different about July.  All major economic sectors including retail sales, construction and oil and gas saw an increase in sales tax collections.  He says that’s another trend the Comptroller’s office will be monitoring closely.
