Trial In Death of Plano Family Begins Today
A trial begins today, more than two years after a Plano family of five was wiped out in a crash on their way home from church. The horrible impact splintered the family’s mini-van, killing the Plano couple and their 12-year-old daughter instantly. Two foster children, ages five and six, died later at the hospital. The other driver, David Calhoun Jones, was indicted within weeks on manslaughter charges. Since the June 2008 crash, other counts have been added including driving while intoxicated. Police determined Jones was going 98 in a 40-miles-an-hour zone when be blew a red light and broadsided the mini-van. The trial has been delayed several times, partly because of Jones’ own medical issues. He was left paralyzed in the crash and has been treated this summer for a serious bone infection.
