Nearly 2,500 people gathered in Mexico City last weekend to try for a new world record for the largest number of simultaneously erupting Mentos geysers. That’s when Mentos candies are dropped into a bottle of soda and the fizz creates a geyser effect.
Guinness World Records adjudicator Mike Janela was at the event to confirm a new record set. He says “all those fountains erupted it was just incredible to see.”
The crowd achieved a new world record, with 2,433 Mentos and soda geysers. They dropped Mentos candies into a 2-liter bottle of soda, causing the liquid to shoot up into the air. China held a similar event in June, but reached only 2,175 geysers.
The crowd walked away with a certificate from Guinness World Records and clothes drenched in soda.
