An Allen police officer has been indicted in a case where she’s accused of abusing her son with a belt and a metal spoon. In March, Corporal Melissa Smith was arrested on a charge of causing an injury to a child, her eleven-year-old son. Her husband, a fellow Allen police officer, was also arrested on a charge of official oppression because the boy said his step-father “…handcuffed him, threw him to the ground, strangled him, picked him up…” and drove him to the Allen Police Department, threatening to put him in jail for dis-respecting his mother. While Corporal Smith has been indicted, the grand jury declined to to indict her husband.
